Ready to take the plunge? If you’ve always dreamed of exploring the underwater world, the British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC) offers a range of courses to guide you from beginner to expert. Let’s break down some of the key BSAC courses, along with their age and depth limits:

Try Dive: A perfect introductory experience for those curious about scuba diving. While there’s no minimum age, participants should be comfortable in water. This experience usually takes place in a pool or confined open water with a shallow depth limit.

Discovery Diver: A slightly more in-depth introduction for people ready to commit a little more time. Minimum age is 12. This involves some basic theory and skills practice, with dives in sheltered water to a maximum depth of 12 meters.

Ocean Diver: The first full scuba certification, allowing you to dive with a buddy. Minimum age is 12, and divers can explore the underwater world to a maximum depth of 20 meters.

Sports Diver: Focused on developing confidence and diving skills. The minimum age is 14, and this certification allows you to dive to depths of 35 meters.

Dive Leader: This course emphasizes dive planning and leadership, a prerequisite for instructor-level training. The minimum age is 16, and there is no specific depth limit; however, dive leaders must plan dives within their own experience level.

Advanced Diver: Experienced divers looking to maximize their skills can take this course (minimum age of 16). Advanced Divers can reach depths of 50 meters and explore topics like decompression procedures.
